The thrill is gone ....
I have to admit that this offering is a cut above the last offering the Griffin franchise produced. But, reluctantly, I have to say the thrill is gone. The books all have a formula now. The hero gets promoted over his head but winds up performing brilliantly. He has a dangerous affair with a beautiful woman. Last time in this series it was KGB spy. This time it is a beautiful WAC who may be working for a maybe competitive agency. Who knows. There is a lot of internecine inter-agency conflict punctuated by huffing, puffing, posturing and dressing each other down leading up to an anticlimactic mission whose successful completion ends the book.
The Griffin franchise was on solid ground opening up fresh plot lines and characters in the Presidential Agent Series until someone decided to destroy that highly likeable product line by releasing the most disappointing book I have ever read, the ill begotten Janet Evanovich clone, Hazardous Duty.
