The Berenstain Bears God Made You Special (Berenstain Bears/Living Lights) by Mike Berenstain was a different kind of Berenstain Bears book for me. I felt the story had many good points as Sister Bear wants to know why someone is “different” than the rest of her friends. This opens up a learning opportunity for her as well as parents to share with their children. I think this is a good topic to discuss and I think the help of the Berenstain Bears is a good idea.
That said, I felt the story read a little awkwardly at times. At one point, I felt the story was setting up well with a question and I was getting involved in it and then it jumped to “It just so happened…” and this broke the flow I was starting to get into. I thought it would have been better if it kept me in the story like it was happening now or used some different wording.
