easily one of the best 2 or 3 new books in 2014
Volume 2 in a fantastic new series. This is easily one of my favorite new comics from 2014, and definitely in my top 10 books for all of 2014. The art sets the tone, conveys emotions and portrays a lush new world that harbors danger in the rivers and in the forests.
Lewis and Clark's exploration of the Louisiana Purchase is the background and plot device for this series. Lewis and Clark are depicted as friends who have teamed together to explore the land that President Jefferson bought for a very low price from France. From Chris Dingess's mind springs the concept that one of the main reasons it was so cheap was because it was full of monsters. Meriweather Lewis keeps a public journal (which we learn about in social studies class) and a private journal, meant only for President Jefferson's eyes (and is a full account of their trials and tribulations involving monsters).
I know...it sounds like a strange concept (too strange for comics even), but it is wonderful...
