Interesting story but missing the thrills -- 3 1/2 stars
I enjoy reading thrillers and this one has promise but didn't quite have the page-turning excitement to make me really like it.
This is a biological thriller with a good chunk of political thriller mixed in with some environmental messages. I think I would have liked it better if the story had only been about the biological aspect without the politics.
the main character is a Marine doctor with a specialty in biological weapons. He gets called in to help with a rescue effort of a submarine stranded in the Arctic with sick people on board.
I most enjoyed the parts of the book that are about the Arctic and what the ice is like. You can tell the author really knows that region because the descriptive passages are so good you can almost picture it.
The thriller-type writing is less successful. The book does not flow seamlessly because of a number of places where the narrative pauses for a bit of melodramatic suspense. You'll be reading...
