Good study, not for reflection and meditation
I selected this book for devotional reading prior to the Lenten Season. I was anticipating some readings that would prompt meditation and reflection. Sadly that’s not what I found.
Author Rowan Williams used transcripts from talks given at Canterbury Cathedral in 2010. According to the introduction, Williams “left most of it unaltered.” Spoken words don’t always translate well to written word. This is true in this particular instance because what is written is more academic than meditative.
Williams’s study of Mark is unique and he presents details about Mark and his ministry that are rarely studied. The insight presented helps the reader understand why Mark wrote the way he did. Mark wanted to get the meat of the life of Jesus. Once I understood Mark, I was better able to study the book.
But academic study isn’t what I was looking for. As the title states, I was looking for reflective content that would prompt me...
